Literature Text

You are the color of
Restriction,
Depression,
And making me die
On the inside,
Bit by bit.

I am the color of
Finally over you;
Of washing your sad paint
Off of me.
I've always dreamed in color.
I want to live that way now.
This is another poem I wrote for my Folio Project. Again, it's slightly edited. I didn't like the original layout, but I had limited space to write it in. So, I tweaked it slightly when posting it here. The inspiration for the poem was one of my ex-boyfriends. Basically, almost any time I write sad poems, I draw off of my horrible experiences with him. It's not really even intentional. It's more of a reflex really. And honestly, I'm not still upset by him, but I can distinctly remember the feelings associated with him, and sometimes, they make good poetry.

Gotta say this resonated not just on an emotional level but on an imaginative one too. I do love the second stanza especially the imagery of:
"Of washing your sad paint
Off of me.
I've always dreamed in color.
"

It's akin to living in black and white until the fog dissipates into technicolor. Ah, but relationships are funny things to get right I find. Some of us live in a black and white world while others flicker along in brighter hues.

On another note, that's an admirable feat to take bad memories and convert them into such scintillating words of verse. Well done.
