Everyone loves limericks
(Limericks are brainless.)
And haiku.
(Haiku are emotionless.)
Except me.
I hate the both of them.
And iambic pentameter:
The most beautiful meter in
English-language poetry,
Supposedly,
Is awkward, uncomfortable
And restrictive, in my opinion,
Like pantyhose.
I don't want to entertain you
Or fill up a syllable count.
So I guess I'm a bad poet
Because I want to express
Feelings with meanings
Without restriction.

This is my 21st poem for NaPoWriMo 2014. Just been seeing / hearing lots of hype about stuff like this recently. No offence if you like any of these things.

So meter and/or rhyme comprise my comfort zone. That being said, I'm rubbish at haiku and my sole attempt at iambic pentameter was far too much work. I've always thought poetry should flow freely, and that was echoed perfectly here. This was very well done, and mirrored a favorite quote of mine:
"Poetry [...] is a rejection against artifice." -James Joice
This one's just a bonus:
"Pantyhose must be extremely uncomfortable." -Me
