Literature Text

If a tree falls in a forest
It creates a disturbance
In the surrounding matter.
If perceived, sound occurs.
If unperceived, arguably
It has created only waves.

When the lightning strikes,
And the wind blows,
And the rain is too heavy to see through,
Roots splinter and break.
When people crash and stay down,
Sound is the last thing people care about.
This is my 25th poem for NaPoWriMo 2014. I've gotten behind at posting my poems because of the end of semester crunch. I'll work on posting my scribblings.

Recently some friends and I were talking about how people often judge people who try or even succeed to commit suicide as being selfish, because they aren't thinking about what it'll do to them. Isn't that ironic? Who is really being selfish. We were talking about the ethics of it. Several of the people who were there know people who have committed suicide. Obviously, suicide is tragic, and I would always urge people who contemplate such things to seek help and find alternative solutions to problems. The main thing we were talking about though is one girl whose aunt had recovered from cancer, but then relapsed and it was terminal, and she committed suicide. She didn't want to go through it again, especially if it would be her last experience. Particularly since it would elongate the pain for her family, and create more expenses. Quite frankly, I respect that. I think that's not selfish at all.

I sparred about suicide w/ a relative the other day.  To me, it gets to a point where the spirit decides to move on.
