Literature Text
It was a hard pill to swallow,
Without any sugar-coating.
You dissolved into me when crushed.
I tried to drain my veins of you
But you’re there in the marrow
Of my bones, regenerating;
Transposing into my
every drop of blood
Our artificial substance.
It still pulls under my skin
When you get too close.
Your fingerprints in my dreams
Are the only things that dissipate.
You still taste so bitter,
And it never quite goes away.
Without any sugar-coating.
You dissolved into me when crushed.
I tried to drain my veins of you
But you’re there in the marrow
Of my bones, regenerating;
Transposing into my
every drop of blood
Our artificial substance.
It still pulls under my skin
When you get too close.
Your fingerprints in my dreams
Are the only things that dissipate.
You still taste so bitter,
And it never quite goes away.
This is my 26th poem from NaPoWriMo 2014! It's also my 2nd entry for the music / lyrics contest at Poets-and-Warriors. It was inspired by "In My Veins" by Andrew Belle. www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0KZuZ…

Love the imagery and allusion of this poem. Bad relationships are bitter and toxic yet addicting!
